Details of the Summer Adventure Camp
Day 1 – Welcome and introduction to the Adventure Mentors’ Summer Adventure Camp. After a good series of name games and icebreakers, we will have a brief lesson on how to make your own trail mix which will be a daily activity. Next, we will focus on learning new adventure hard skills like tying knots, setting up rope anchors and using climbing gear, all in preparation for a Tyrolean Traverse. Lunch will be a make your own burrito cooking class followed by an afternoon of team building activities based on simulated and actual creek crossings.
Day 2 – Today we will focus on the importance of leadership, communication, problem solving and team building as we learn about radio communications, how to build rescue litters and how to transport them over various terrains. Next up is the Adventure Mentors’ RESCUE MISSION, where everyone will put their new skills to work to “rescue” our camp pet, Sandy the Sloth (a stuffed animal) and get him safely back to camp. After a make your own sandwich cooking class, we will spend the afternoon sharing some of the joys of nature and our vegetable garden that is supplying some of our daily lunch produce.
Day 3 – A full morning to learn the basics of map and compass orienteering. These skills will then be applied in a fun scavenger hunt around the farm. Before lunch, we will work in the vegetable garden and collect more goodies for our stuff-your-own pitas cooking class. After some fun team building games we will introduce the Adventure Mentors’ Adventure Race for tomorrow and the teams. This evening participants have the option to camp out with us overnight on site. The additional fee includes all camping gear and kitchen mess. We will cook dinner together, roast marshmallows over a campfire, play some fun night activities and sleep under the stars.
Day 4 – After breakfast of fruit and pancakes and camp breakdown, we will gather with all camp participants and get ready for the Adventure Mentors’ Adventure Race. This will be the grand finale and opportunity for all the participants to put their new hard and soft skills to test in an exciting outdoor arena with new found friends. Camp will finish with a big serenity circle to highlight all the good times and smiles we’ve shared.
We look forward to sharing time outdoors with your kids!
