Adventure Kids Staff

Directors are Carol Weir and Carlos Chacón. 
Carol formerly was managing editor of The Tico Times and also taught the fifth grade in Costa Rica. She has been a counselor at YMCA camps, previously worked as a Red Cross certified lifeguard, and also is certified in First Aid and CPR.
 

Carlos Chacón has 15 years experience as a nature guide for families and groups in Costa Rica and other countries. He worked for Horizontes Nature Guides and other tour operators before starting his own company. His areas of interest include birds, butterflies and other insects and sea turtles. 


Carol and Carlos are married and have two young sons.

Junior Counselors

Junior counselors (Costa Rican students) assist the directors at camp.

Susana Calvo is 17 years old and likes drawing, reading,listening to many kinds of music, and horseback riding. She got her first taste of camp life in the Girl Scouts of Costa Rica. She also loves traveling and learning languages, and is studying French right now. Susana would like to study architecture or graphic design, preferably in a foreign country.

Mercedes Ortega is an outgoing and optimistic person who loves to spend time with children and her friends. She likes to play sports and listen to music. She takes pride in being responsible and fulfilling her responsibilities.

Marco Paniagua is a second year business student at Unversity of Costa Rica. He worked last summer on the first adventure kids camp and he loved it. He's an easy going guy who's easy to talk to. If you¹re looking for sports and athletic action, he's the person to come to.

Lily Solano is 17 years old. She enjoys dancing (hip-hop, breakdancing, jazz, ballet, and belly dance). She also loves the beach, the color pink, her friends, and her two dogs. She's a very organized person and, most importantly, she loves kids.

Virgie Castro-Conde is a fan of nature, the cinema, dancing, and music. Considered a people person, she likes to spend time with kids and guide them on the right path. She helps children with creative ways to express themselves including painting and drawing. Writing and acting are two of her other hobbies, and her goal is to waken the creative soul in each child.
